Garages That Shelter Cars From Plains Weather
Epoxy flooring in Firestone has a practical job: keeping the garage clean and dry when weather pushes every vehicle indoors. Firestone sits out on open farmland at about 4,856 feet, and summer storms here can be serious. On June 7, 2021, an EF2 tornado formed about 2 miles northeast of town and tracked 7.1 miles toward Platteville.
Spring and summer bring hail, so the cars that normally live in the driveway get squeezed inside. In winter the same garage collects melting snow and road grime. A coated floor sheds that water toward the door rather than letting it soak into bare concrete, where it can lead to scaling and stains.
Built in the last twenty years
Firestone looks nothing like it did in 2000, back when just 1,908 people lived here. The estimate for July 2025 is 20,129, and land area grew from 10.37 to 13.57 square miles between 2010 and 2020 as subdivisions spread. Most of those homes have relatively young slabs, which affects how we prep them. Fresh concrete is often harder and smoother on top than an older floor, so it needs a deeper profile for the base coat to bite. It also tends to show its first shrinkage cracks in the first few years, and those are simpler to fix before a finish goes over them.
Getting a young slab ready
- Checking that new concrete has dried enough to accept a coating
- Removing any thin clear sealer applied at construction
- Fixing early shrinkage cracks before they show through
- Profiling the surface so the base coat grips evenly
Fitting more into the same garage
With a median home value of $560,100 and 81.3% of homes owner-occupied, a Firestone garage often has to hold bikes, coolers, a second fridge and two vehicles at once. A light gray or tan flake blend brightens the room and makes it easier to spot a dropped screw. Wall-to-wall coverage, including the stem walls a few inches up, keeps meltwater off the drywall line.
Dust, sprinklers and the next storm
Open fields around Firestone send fine dust into garages on windy days, and summer irrigation tracks mud across the slab. Bare concrete soaks up both until the stains build up. A sealed flake surface lets you sweep or rinse the room clean in minutes, and the speckled pattern masks whatever is left between cleanings. State geologists also caution that irrigating plantings right against a foundation lets water reach swelling clay, so if a new-build slab is already cracking near a sprinkler zone, that is worth checking before we coat.
Polyaspartic topcoats also return the floor to use fast, so the cars aren't stuck outside during hail season. Ring (720) 776-9487 for a no-cost look at your garage before the next round of summer storms.

Firestone Questions
Our Firestone home was built a couple of years ago. Is the garage slab ready?
Often it is, but age alone doesn't tell us. We take readings on the concrete during the estimate and only schedule once the numbers say it's ready.
Will meltwater and hail-season puddles damage a coated floor?
Standing water doesn't soak into a properly cured coating the way it does bare concrete, and it can be squeegeed out. It does make the floor slick, so we can add a fine texture in the topcoat for better footing when it's wet.
Can you coat the stem walls and the area under the garage door?
Yes. Running the coating a few inches up the walls and finishing cleanly at the door seal helps keep water and salt from wicking into the edges.
How soon can we pull the cars back in if hail is in the forecast?
Once the fast-curing topcoat is down, walking on it is usually fine the same day and vehicles can return sooner than with traditional epoxy. Exact timing depends on temperature, and we give you an estimated window before we start.
